It is only February, and yet we have already been working super hard here at Treelodge. Our newest treehouse is – literally and figuratively in the works. On 26 December 2024, disaster struck. Our beautiful Spotted Woodpecker burned down completely. From one day to the next, she was gone. What was left behind was silence. And a place in the forest that suddenly felt different than before.
We broke down the charred remains, but it was not completely gone. Those who come here often know that the forest has a memory. A scar was left in our forest.
Would we dare to start building again? Would we want to put a tree house on that spot again? One that doesn't try to forget what was, but makes room for new stories, new memories, new peace. Maybe we do…
It all had to be right before we could start. Again, we drew the plan ourselves, with great care and completely the way we wanted it. The way we knew our guests would want it. And as it would fit perfectly into our forest.
After the foundation came support piles, and these were firmly anchored into the ground. Then the lower support beams followed, giving shape to the platform. Our new treehouse is going to be very sturdy – just like its brothers.
Today the decking boards are on and you can already see very nicely how this place will come back to life.
In the next phase, we will build the A-frame. Once that roof structure is in place, our new treehouse will have its final height én character. Then we will windproof the walls, put in the windows and put roofing on.
In the coming months, the new treehouse will rise from the ashes of our Pied Woodpecker, moving from a yard to a warm place in our forest. With every board and beam that gets a spot here, the moment is getting closer again when our guests can come and enjoy, slow down and wake up among the trees… wonderful!
In the meantime, the stoves are in our Tawny Owl, Buzzard and Chiffchaff are already cosily roosting and our forest is looking fantastic. Perhaps winter is the most beautiful season. Ideal to come and slow down, get away from it all for a while, and enjoy each other and the peace and quiet. 🤍
