In winter, Treelodge feels different. Quieter. The days are quieter, and you feel that time moves just a little slower here in our forest. The forest becomes quieter. You hear your own steps again. ’s mornings there is mist hanging between the trees and ’s evenings get dark cosily early. The forest is in rest mode. Your body automatically shifts down a gear. Less stimuli, fewer distractions, more focus on what really matters.
This is no coincidence. Here, in the peace and quiet of our forest, you live to the rhythm of nature. Your body follows the daylight. You get sleepy when it gets dark, you sleep deeper and wake up more rested. Guests often say that they sleep better here than at home. That their heads get calmer here, that they are given time as a gift. To read a book, snuggle up or just enjoy the outdoors by the crackling fire of the Fire Shed. Alone or together.
When it is cold, we spend more time indoors. Cosily warm in the sofa or sinking into the cushions of the bed – with a beautiful view of nature all around. Or around the campfire. Silences become less awkward and the intimacy of the warm treehouse naturally leads to long and deep conversations. Conversations that linger on, even when the fire has long since gone out.
In the hot tub, you feel the cold air on your face and the warm water around your body. Steam rises among the trees. You look up and see stars that seem sharper than usual. After the sauna, just standing outside, with tingling skin and an empty head. Blissful. And that effect lingers, for days afterwards.
And then there's the food. Take your time for that too. Think stews simmering quietly, home-made pizza from the wood-fired oven, a winter barbecue where you just stand around the fire. Waiting is part of it, with or without a delicious glass of wine in hand. Slowing down, making everything taste just that little bit better.
What many guests here tell us afterwards is that they feel again how little it actually takes to be truly happy: time. Time to walk together in and around our forest, with cold cheeks and warm hands in your coat pockets. Time to not have to do anything and just be. Time that is not filled with ‘musts’ but in which you are allowed to just be. Without expectations and without planning.
Winter invites you to live slower. To move with the rhythm of the day, with the light and the silence. To ’wake up quietly in the morning and ’crawl under the wool on time in the evening. That simple rhythm does something to a person. It brings peace to the mind and relaxation to the body.
Maybe that is why winter at Treelodge leaves such a lasting impression for many people. Because here it is just blissful as it is. Warm, quiet and real.
