Autumn at Treelodge

gepubliceerd op: 20 september 2024

On colours and scents, light and warmth

The first morning mist, dewdrops that stay on the grass until noon, chilly gusts of wind and falling nuts…you can tell by the little things that autumn is creeping into September. A welcome change after the warmth of the summer sun, although perhaps we saw too little of that this summer. Fortunately, you can still get a lot of vitamin D in autumn, on long walks or lying in the hot tub. Inspiration galore, in this blog text!

Our forest is also gradually changing colour. The dull green summer leaves are turning brown, yellow and red hues, and when the wind blows the acorns plop to the ground. But the warmth of summer is still in the ground, and it is still lovely to sit, play and enjoy outside – with or without a mackintosh on. And if you read on, we are happy to give you five more cool tips!

1. Go exploring in the forest

When was the last time you walked through the woods in the dark? Or maybe you never have? Well, now is the time to get out the torches and take a walk around our grounds. Not scary, but exciting. Because even ’s at night, the forest is teeming with life. You might see an owl flying or a pair of bats. With some luck, a little mouse will jump away just before your feet or you will hear the distant rustle of a family of bunnies.

Our tip!

Make a game of it: What do you hear? What do you see? What do you smell?

2. Stay cosy inside

When the bleak autumn wind is blowing through the trees outside or the rain is falling in big drops from the sky, there is no place cosier than inside your own treehouse, in front of the wood-burning stove. Snuggle under a blanket in the sofa with a good book and warm socks, with the tapping of the rain in the background. Or dive into our Chiffchaff or Buzzard's bath together and enjoy the peace, quiet and each other.

Play a game together, one of those where you have to think or work out tactics. Or choose one where you just have to get lucky and everyone is on the floor laughing after 15 minutes. Unforgettable moments you experience together that you will remember for a long time.

Our tip!

Always bring a book of cards with you, that way you can have fun both alone – solitaire, anyone? - as well as with the whole party. 😉

3. Light a fire in your evening

In our Fire Shed, it is always dry. And – when you light the campfire – also nice and warm. It is dé place to have aperitifs, or just to cosily warm up after a virtuous walk. Do you know what we like most of all? That you can meet other people here. Because the Barn is also a meeting place for those staying with us. Many friendships have already been formed around that crackling fire. Strangers to each other on arrival, but after a few evenings of talking and enjoying the peace, quiet and cosiness, they immediately book again for the next year – with the same people. Fantastic, right?

And even as a couple or with your family, cooking, sitting and playing around such’a campfire is a cool experience. For example, how about twist pieces of bread dough around sticks and bake them over the flames and heat up the soup in the meantime. After a few minutes, you will have delicious home-baked bread that goes perfectly with the soup and the season.

Our tip!

Let children split enough wood in advance and bring it to the Fire Shed.

4. Venture out

In autumn, walking is blissful. Even if it is windy or raining (a little), the fresh air is incredibly beneficial. Thinking about nothing for a moment, being completely here and now. Wonderful.
You don't even have to go far, just a stroll through our own forest can be enough. And if you feel like a longer walk, then Outside the beaten track is highly recommended. 3.5 kilometres and also doable with children. Should it be a bit more, there is also a GR route nearby, which you can follow for a bit. The GR565 takes you from Kasterlee to Retie, right through the clean Kempen countryside. And if you like to map out your own walk, just follow the walking junction network near Treelodge.

Our tip!

Are you going for a walk with (grand)children? Pack an empty egg box to collect pebbles, nuts, feathers, leaves… in. Turn it into a quest by writing down in advance what you want to put in the box. Find inspiration here!

5. Create me-time

Autumn is also the time to unwind – between the busy September and the fast-approaching end-of-year period, this is the perfect time to make some time for yourself. Cook something delicious or have something cooked for you. Order breakfast from one of our partners or make it a baking feast yourself. In our pizza oven or in the kitchen of your tree house, you can prepare all kinds of goodies yourself. And leave the washing-up to tomorrow (while you get all zen in the hot tub). Sleep late, take a hot bath, pack well and explore the area. You will see: your batteries will be recharged!

Our tip!

Nestle yourself on the sofa, in bed or on the couch and look écht at the play of light from the sun and the trees. Magnificent!
